Billy Hui is a flautist equally at home on modern and historical flutes. His work on historical flutes includes performances with Bristol Ensemble, City Bach Collective, Réjouissance, and the Musicians’ Company Consort, as well as side-by-side projects with the Academy of Ancient Music.

Adept on both the flute and piccolo, he has performed with the Hallé, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, English Symphony Orchestra, Chromatica Orchestra, Buxton International Festival Orchestra, and Zürcher Symphoniker. In 2025, he was selected for the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Foyle Future Firsts. His orchestral training includes Professional Experience Schemes with the BBC Philharmonic and the Hallé and side-by-side projects with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Philharmonia.

Billy is an active chamber musician, with performances at Wigmore Hall, Lake District Summer Music and Södertälje Chamber Music Festival. He is a founding member of the chamber ensemble Les Acolytes, recently selected as Brighton Early Music Festival Emerging Artists for the 2026–27 season.

Originally from Hong Kong, Billy moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with Laura Jellicoe and Janet Richardson, graduating with First Class Honours. During his studies, he was awarded the Fewkes and Emerson prizes for chamber music. Supported by a Countess of Munster Trust scholarship, he later completed a Master’s degree with distinction at the Royal College of Music, studying with Sue Thomas, Rachel Brown, and Stewart McIlwham.
