Jane Burnell

Manchester Baroque Fellow, Soprano

Jane Burnell is a British/Irish soprano praised for her “effortless, vivacious singing” and “deep musicality”. She completed her Master of Music in Vocal and Opera Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Linda Richardson, and previously trained at Leeds Conservatoire, where she was awarded both the Leeds Rotary Club Music Prize and the Peter Roberts CBE Memorial Prize. She continues her vocal studies privately with Linda Richardson.

Jane is the Winner of the Eastbourne International Singing Competition 2025. Operatic highlights include Gasparina (La Canterina, Haydn) and Giovanna (Ernani, Verdi) for Buxton International Festival, as well as appearances with Wexford Festival Opera, where she has performed in Lady Gregory in America and Le Maschere, and will return as a member of the Wexford Factory for the 2025/26 season. Further roles include Mademoiselle Silberklang (The Impresario, Mozart), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Belinda/Second Woman (Dido and Aeneas), and the title role in the contemporary opera The Language of Flowers.

A regular concert soloist with a particular affinity for Baroque repertoire, Jane has appeared in works such as Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Mass in B minor, Handel’s Messiah, and Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, performing with ensembles across the UK including Manchester Baroque. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra at The Great Yorkshire Proms.

Alongside her performing career, Jane is active in music education and outreach, working as a Workshop Leader for Leeds Lieder and conducting operatic projects at Leeds Conservatoire. Her studies at the RNCM were generously supported by the Richard Newitt Fund.
