Philip Turner is a player of early plucked instruments and explores cutting edge approaches to historical performance in his performances which breathe new life into centuries old repertoire. An alumnus of the Royal Northern College of Music and Royal Academy of Music, having studied under masters such as Paula Chateaneuf, Liz Kenny, Roger Hamilton and James Johnstone, he now finds himself in various engagements across the country. From large to small baroque orchestras in for dramatic stages and concert halls, to chamber and consort ensembles for music ranging from the 14th to the 18th century, to accompanying solo instrumentalists and singers and his own solo recitals, he prides himself in his versatility.

Some recent highlights include a debut performance for the Lute Society in the Dutch Church in London, assisting in the production of L’incoronazione di Poppea in Cambridge, and even the premiere of a commissioned opera in Hull.
