Brendan Howell, Manchester Baroque Fellow, Violin

Brendan is currently based in Manchester following recent completion of a Masters degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. He previously studied at the University of York. During Brendan’s time at the RNCM, he auditioned successfully for both the Manchester Camerata and BBC Philharmonic Professional Engagement Schemes, and has since been a regular performer with Manchester Camerata. Highlights at the RNCM include leading both the Baroque and Chamber Orchestras. As a soloist, recent highlights for Brendan include a performance of the Bruch G minor Violin Concerto with the University of York Chamber Orchestra & Tynedale Orchestra, as well as performing the Bach Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor with the Tynedale Orchestra.

Brendan has a particular passion for Historically Informed Performance and music of the Baroque in particular. He regularly performs with Manchester Baroque and the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists. Chamber music is also a great passion for Brendan. He was the first violinist in the Eboracum Quartet, affiliated with the University of York. During Brendan’s time with the quartet, they received masterclasses from the Consone, Diotima and Bingham Quartets. He also leads the Howell and Ebor quartets.
