‘Musick’ in Manchester 1744/45
Our long-term project, ‘Musick’ in Manchester 1744/45, is where history and musical performance combine at their richest. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr Pauline Nobes, who is researching Manchester’s first ever subscription concerts (1744/45) as well as delving into Manchester Central Library’s rich archive of musical scores, Manchester Baroque come together to perform another of the 16 original programmes that took place in our very own city on April 30th 1745. Using the historical evidence of these subscription concert programmes and the wealth of the library collection, Manchester Baroque are bringing the music back to life, being as faithful as possible to the original programmes. Alongside Handel and Corelli are lesser-known solo concertos by Tessarini and Hasse and a ‘Cantata’ identified as one of three Cantatas by the English composer George Hayden. Join us for a true time travelling concert experience, and journey back to Manchester 1745!
